Community forum
The forum gathered 28 representatives from 16 tech companies operating across Asia-Pacific (APAC) for a closed-door discussion on online child safety, regional collaboration, and the practical challenges companies face as they work to prevent and respond to online child sexual exploitation and abuse (OCSEA).
The APAC region is diverse in every sense: jurisdictions, languages, cultures, regulatory environments, platform types, and operational realities. That diversity matters. Companies working to keep children safe online need opportunities to engage in ways that reflect the markets where they operate and the challenges their teams face on the ground.
That is why the Tech Coalition is investing in deeper regional engagement.
Building trusted spaces
The APAC community forum gave participants a dedicated space to connect with peers, discuss shared challenges, and explore opportunities for continued collaboration. While the discussion was confidential, several high-level themes stood out.
Participants reflected on the complexity of operating across fast-evolving regulatory environments and the need for practical, informed engagement among industry, policymakers, and other stakeholders. Companies also discussed the operational realities of implementing safety measures across different jurisdictions, products, user communities, and languages.
Across the discussion, participants emphasized the value of knowledge sharing. Companies of all sizes are navigating growing expectations around child safety, including reporting, detection, moderation, age-related requirements, and emerging technology risks. These challenges can look different across platforms, but many of the underlying needs are shared: trusted relationships, practical resources, regional context, and opportunities to learn from one another.
The forum also reinforced the importance of cross-sector collaboration. Industry cannot address OCSEA alone. Companies, law enforcement, civil society, policymakers, and technical experts all have distinct roles to play. By creating spaces for constructive engagement, the Tech Coalition can help strengthen the relationships and shared understanding needed to support effective child protection efforts.
Expanding engagement in APAC
The community forum is one part of a broader effort to grow the Tech Coalition’s presence and support across APAC.
Earlier this year, we launched a member working group on APAC-focused law enforcement outreach and response. The group gives practitioners a trusted forum to exchange knowledge, discuss emerging issues, and share practical insights related to law enforcement engagement across the region.
We will continue building on this work through additional convening, member discussions, and opportunities for regional collaboration.
Looking ahead
OCSEA requires collaboration across companies, sectors, and borders. No single company or organization can meet this challenge alone.
As more companies build, scale, and operate services across APAC, the need for regional connection and practical support will only grow. The Tech Coalition will continue working with members and stakeholders to create trusted spaces, strengthen shared learning, and support coordinated action to keep children safe online.
