From signals to disruption

Lantern is enabling a shift from fragmented threat intelligence to coordinated, cross-platform action—helping companies detect and disrupt online child sexual exploitation and abuse (OCSEA).

As abuse increasingly spans services, this approach strengthens the industry’s ability to identify related activity and take action across platforms.

How Lantern works

When a company detects OCSEA, it takes action on its own platform and can securely share a signal through Lantern—such as an account, URL, or behavioral indicator.

Other participating companies assess the signal, investigate potential links to activity on their own services, and take action where appropriate.

This process enables faster, more coordinated responses to abuse that moves across platforms.

Lantern is a voluntary, industry-led initiative, open to qualifying technology companies and financial institutions.

Scaling participation

Lantern is expanding across sectors and becoming embedded in operational safety workflows.

In 2025:

  • 31 companies participated, including 28 technology companies and 3 financial institutions
  • 23 companies met the engagement criteria, nearly doubling year-on-year

Following a successful pilot, participation from financial institutions is now a permanent part of Lantern—strengthening the ability to address financially motivated OCSEA and disrupt abuse networks more effectively.

Measurable impact

Participation growth is translating into measurable results.

Since launch, Lantern has enabled:

  • 2M+ signals shared, including nearly 1M in 2025 alone
  • 350,000+ enforcement actions across accounts, URLs, and content

In 2025 alone, signals contributed to action against:

  • 17,778 pieces of content
  • 31,504 accounts
  • 27,646 URLs
