The role
The Lantern Program Director will lead and scale the Tech Coalition’s Lantern program, the industry’s first cross-platform signal-sharing program focused on combating OCSEA.
This person will be responsible for setting and executing strategy, driving growth, securing new sources of revenue by building and maintaining a pipeline of prospects and funding opportunities, scaling operations, and ensuring that Lantern delivers measurable results and meets its mission-critical goals. They will act as both a strategic thinker and hands‑on operator, guiding Lantern from its current state toward greater effectiveness, reach, and impact.
Key responsibilities
Strategic leadership & vision
- Develop and refine the vision and program strategy for Lantern, including defining objectives, metrics, and long‑term roadmap.
- Assess what “next level” looks like in terms of scale, innovation, partnership, policy, impact, and sustainability.
Thought leadership, promotion & external representation
- Represent Lantern and the Tech Coalition in external forums, conferences, and media; communicate Lantern’s mission, progress, and opportunities
- Develop and lead promotional strategies to raise awareness of Lantern across the tech sector, civil society, and policymaker communities
- Ensure a consistent flow of data, information and case studies to support communication and promotion of program impact
- Ensure alignment with relevant policy, regulatory, and legal developments in child protection and online safety.
Revenue & sustainability
- Develop and execute strategies to diversify funding through program expansion, sponsorships, and partnerships.
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline of prospects to ensure long-term financial sustainability.
Program execution & delivery
- Oversee operational excellence in Lantern’s design, implementation, and evaluation.
- Ensure that activities are aligned with strategic goals and adapt based on evidence and changing environmental/legal/technological contexts.
Partnerships, prospecting & stakeholder engagement
- Build and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders related to Lantern: tech companies, legal experts, civil society, government/regulators, NGOs, researchers.
- Recruit new participants to expand Lantern’s reach and strengthen its impact and generate additional revenue for Lantern
Technical & legal/policy domain expertise
- Bring deep understanding of privacy law, child safety, threat sharing, online harms, regulation, and/or related domains. Use that expertise to inform Lantern’s priorities, align with best practices, anticipate risks, and ensure compliance.
Team leadership & capacity building
- Lead and grow a high‑performance Lantern team. Mentor staff, set clear goals, manage performance and resources. Build capacity where needed in technical, legal, policy, product or research functions.
Resource & financial oversight
- Manage Lantern’s budget, ensure efficient allocation of resources, track financial performance, and report on outcomes.
Leadership & Governance Reporting
- Provide regular updates and strategic reporting to the Tech Coalition’s senior leadership and Board of Directors on Lantern’s progress, impact, risks, and opportunities.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in leading programs or functions related to privacy, child safety, online harms, law, and/or technology policy. Preferably experience in taking something from 0→1 (starting up or scaling a new initiative).
- Deep knowledge of privacy law, child protection / safety, trust & safety, threat sharing, or related regulatory environment.
- Strong strategic thinking and execution skills: ability to define and deliver on strategy, adapt in ambiguous environments.
- Proven success in revenue generation, partnership development, or scaling initiatives.
- Proven track record forging partnerships with both technical teams and legal/policy stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills: ability to bridge technical, legal, policy audiences; strong written and verbal presentation skills.
- Demonstrated financial and budget management experience.
- Strong leadership skills, including staff management, team development, setting measurable goals, and accountability.
- Collaborative mindset and comfort working in a lean, mission-driven organization
- Experience preparing and presenting reports to executives and/or boards, with the ability to synthesize complex information for decision-making.
- Experience working within or with tech companies, startups, or scale‑ups, in particular navigating privacy and legal considerations.
- Experience with international or multi‑jurisdictional policy work or programs.
- Familiarity with threat intelligence / threat sharing, content moderation, or child protection technology.
